WRITTEN WORD RECEPTOR
If writing is the act of effectively transferring thoughts to written  form, then the writer's challenge is to convey those thoughts by writing in a  manner that best gives all readers a clear understanding of every nuance in his thinking process.   When a person  feels strongly enough about any subject to commit it to written word, he certainly wants readers to understand exactly what he envisions in his  mind.  If you’ve ever suffered that frustration of attempting to explain thoughts to someone who doesn’t grasp your  idea, you begin to understand the writer’s dilemma.  Writing  must be simple enough and concise enough for all readers to grasp the concept and its nuances.

The writer gives himself to his reader.   One can  only write from his own experience,  which is certainly reflected in the  finished product.  The greatest beauty of writing is it shares one’s unique views with those who read them.   Writing represents conviction to one’s beliefs and the courage to express and openly share those beliefs in a form which can seemingly last forever.  People who write are admirable because they make that conscious decision to bare themselves to the world.

The intertwining processes of reading and writing are among the most  intimate acts performed by the human family.  Even physical lovers aren’t always  privy to the deepest thoughts of one another.

Writing can be a brutalizing chore and writing can be a most uplifting  and joyous experience.  There are  rare and wonderful periods during the writing process when the writer achieves  complete synchronicity between receiving thought in a cerebrally stimulating natural  flow,  then conveying that thought with all its subtleties and intricacies to written word.  Being “in the groove”  like this is surely rare ... and completely exhilarating.   These rare times define when writers are truly artists and creative  beings.  These are times when  writers cease to consciously think.  These are times when writers are truly one with their higher selves, and  these times facilitate the finest act of writing … in its highest and purest form.

Only by mutual understanding can our species begin to understand one another,  heal, then press forward to a future which is boundless in its physical,  mental,  and spiritual growth.   Especially in today’s technologically progressive societies, the act of  one person conveying what lies within his mind and heart is necessary, unique, and not duplicable by any artificial means.  Therefore, the act of writing is invaluable to the progression of all humankind.

Writing is the ultimate act of sharing

Revealing one’s soul to others  ...
the  most precious gift of  all

Once again you have put to paper your thoughts on a subject in a forthright and understandable manner, making me feel very inadequate.

"People who write are admirable because they make that conscious decision to bare themselves to the world" ~

In retrospect I sometimes second-guess what I have said. You remind me to lead with the heart in whatever I say or write, tempering opinions with gentleness, with words that will lead to "mutual understanding."

Mercis,

Pat, you honor me by saying "You remind me ..." If I am "reminding" someone like you, one who has a wonderful command of the writing art, to think of something so positive .. I am humbled and honored. Merci Beaucoup, Pat

Good Morning!! I so appreciate and enjoy the subjects you choose to write about. This one is certainly no exception. I believe writing from the heart is brave beyond explanation. As each word is transferred from brain to paper the writer --depending on his honesty- must make an examination of what his words are giving to the reader and weigh the result against the whispers his heart really Wants to divulge. Can there possibly be a braver or riskier undertaking?
I love your photo of the mailbox! I had never given that transporter of communication its proper respect!!
Thank you so much for your blogs.

Mom, you know your "stamp of approval" is so meaningful to me .. Thank You! That mailbox is south of Gunnison, Colorado and I wonder what passed through it over the years .. maybe a Sears & Roebuck catalogue showed up one day many years ago and the family spent hours pouring over it's contents. Or maybe a far away soldier sat down to write what was in his heart as an anxious family awaited his return ... we will never know. We do know, however, writing is the vehicle which conveys our most intimate thoughts .. drawn like cool water from a deep, deep well. Love, Your Son

I can't let this important topic pass without mentioning our dear Kristin. Among the many traits of this most excellent writer, her willingness to bare her deepest and most heartfelt thoughts stands out. One of the bravest sweet souls churning out the words around! With buckets of talent to boot! And via her FWaD, I came to enjoy your comments, now your blog. Ecrivez on, Bill!

Aloha Pat! To turn on my computer this morning and read this comment is absolutely thrilling. Kristin is, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable writers I've ever read. She displays the courage of a warrior and the tenderness of one filled with compassion. To be noted in the same comment as one I admire so much for her writing abilities is truly an honor. Merci, Pat, Merci Beaucoup!

Bill,

Your essay on writing moved me deeply. Lately, it's been harder and harder to go to my desk, sit down and write. And after what happened on Wednesday in Paris, that cowering feeling returns.

It isn't Islamic militants I am afraid of (well, not exactly!). As I search for the reason behind this transition, your essay has certainly given me the courage to continue a little longer--until I make it over that hump, or change directions entirely (a new career in pulling weeds from my garden is tempting me at the moment! A full-time mindless job! Much safer and much less complicated than blogging for a living).

I enjoyed the comments to your post. Pat's words (thank you dear Pat!) are the massive hug every writer needs at this time--and every time--they hit the publish button. And so is your essay on writing! Merci beaucoup, mon ami.

Kristin, You are a writer .. You are a writer.

There is no sensible explanation for being a writer, but the blessing of having something inside which MUST be stated isn't your choice ... it is your "calling" .. your gift .. your "sometimes" burden

Kristin, you are a writer .. smile, enjoy, write .. You are a writer.

I like to believe we will all write that "thing" which intimidates us the most .. that "thing" we fear exposing .. at least I do hope that occurs for me .. I know it will happen for you.

Kristin .. you are a writer .. Merci for writing.
