I don't know what prompted me to pen the following piece .. it simply jumped out. Maybe Paris is actually creeping into my soul and stirring the pot of romantic notion, or possibly watching our elderly neighbor sit on her porch in silent dignity one year after losing her husband here on Kauai has sparked an empathetic response. Whatever the reason, I am compelled to share the following "honor to love" with everyone .. from Kauai to Paris.

Dirty, hard, and crusty lies the patch of snow outside her window
Bitter cold wind shrieks mercilessly over its' surface
nothing impedes the howling
Old woman watches their spot from behind an icy pane ...
A solitary flower appears on that barren place
Sharing honey flavored nuance with the entire universe
nothing impedes the fragrance
Old man always commented on the mystery and beauty of it all ...
Year after year they shared this event
Now her solitary love wail pierces all creation
nothing impedes the grief
