It seems ... every meaningful conversation I've enjoyed with another person lately has touched on the condition of our planet.

It seems ... every person I have enjoyed an environmental conversation with lately has specific and definitive ideas about how to repair Mother Earth.

One would think we are awakening ..

but

It seems ...
more creatures are dying

It seems ...
more people are starving

It seems ...
more pollution is occurring

It seems ...
more soldiers are killing

Flowers say nothing
they are beautiful
they smell good
and to my knowledge
they never kill anything

It seems ...
We might be wise to stop having conversations
and
start being flowers

from Kauai to Paris .. and all places between

Wishing each of you the peace, beauty, and serenity of a flower

Are we alive ..
awakening to perform
another day similar to yesterday?
Striving to surpass yesterday's accomplishment?
Attempting to elevate the past above and beyond its redundancy?

Do our hearts beat
to merely propel us forward ..
reiterating duplicated and mundane actions?
Swelling our egotistical selves as we proclaim doing the same .. but better?
Are we trapped within smug human success while our true gifts remain suppressed within?

Will our spirits look back
upon life spent toiling to better another's accomplishments ..
upon fantastic dreams unfulfilled and decimated by ego driven desires ..
upon a barren landscape of forsaken creativity and squandered gifts of brilliance?
We can realize and embrace our gifts .. sharing the joy of personal creativity with all beings ..

Only then can we respond ..

"Yes, we are alive!"

"Oui, nous sommes vivants!" ...

Pain Killers and Deodorant

Flowers do something ..
they sit and look pretty ..
they feed the bees ..
they create the air we breath ..
they smell good.
Flowers don't have to find their gift ..
Their gift is existence.

Humans do something ..
we love flowers ..
enjoy their beauty ..
savor their aroma ..
marvel at their delicate strength.
Then we cut 'em ..
and continue down the path.

Lessons dwell quietly in the garden ..
patiently awaiting our arrival.
Whispered amongst flowers
are secrets old as creation ..
keys to happiness ..
answers for life ..
if we stop .. and sit .. and listen.

The promise is there ..
we can be like them ..
we can exist to bring pleasure to others.
Our essence can be beautiful ..
aromatic as the rose.
Be aware .. until we sit in our gardens
pain killers and deodorant will be necessary ..
