Walk it off !

I've been stressing out lately !

There is no major reason for my stress, probably just a simple compilation of every day life, but it occurred to me this morning  I need to deal with it.   This is going to be a short post .. a short post with a declaration and an invitation.
DECLARATION
Today I am going to begin walking four miles every day .. renewing a good old habit.

INVITATION
Join me.  Pick your own distance to walk and let's all share a healthy pastime with one another.  Let's inspire one another!  I know each of you has enjoyed special walks around our globe. Please, share your stories and experiences as we go out and dump the stress together.

Click here to make your own declaration in the comments section.

Walking is so simplistic, so readily accessible, so healthful, and such a wonderful way to connect with the Nature around us.   Walking initiates incredible peacefulness and  introspection .. not to mention  obvious physical benefits.

Possibly the most positive aspect of walking is that it doesn't matter where you are.  The reward is in the walk itself .. giving us a unique view of the surroundings we often overlook while living a hurried life.

We live in a time of incredible man made creations.  We enjoy the fruits born of intellect.  Many of mans greatest discoveries have enriched and simplified every day tasks to a point of reducing the physical to the sedentary.  In other words .. we are happily sitting on our butts while all the gadgets entertain and sustain us.
Come on .. let's go for a walk !

It doesn't matter how you walk .. you can power walk or you can stroll ...  the Gifts are out there waiting, no matter how you choose to receive them.  I hope to see you on the path ...

AMEN Brother! Great post and effective 'kick in the butt'!

Ok, my declaration is less ambitious than yours....for now. I commit to doing a minimum of 15 times UP the stairs at work during each day (only one flight of 12 steps so don't worry, it is doable.) And of course, committing to 15 times UP does mean at least that many DOWN.... I will keep you posted. Can't wait to see what others commit to! Love you!

Hey Sis, enjoy your walks on those stairs! Now that's innovative! I'm glad the post touched you in a positive manner .. hope others benefited by it also. Love, your "sore legs today .. but smiling" Brother

You have put into words my sentiments concerning walking. It is such a wonderful activity that God gave us to enjoy and use.
No matter where we have lived through the years, walking has been my cathartic and joyous choice-sometimes as my primary exercise of the time, sometimes as a self imposed discipline and often as my big adventure of the day.
I no longer commit myself to a certain number of miles or even blocks but on the days my body is cooperating I do go for that walk for all the reasons you have given.
I would have missed so much of life had I not taken my walks. There are many things I routinely and mindfully thank God for. Walking is one,- hot water is another. How can this woman be so blessed? I ask.
I never would have heard the Meadow Lark had I not taken walks or bicycle rides as a kid growing up in that small WY town. Oh what a miss that would have been.
I would never have heard the sound of boots squeaking on a cold, snowy street had I deprived myself of the walk in the frost-bitten world.
I do commit to walking when and where I am for as long as my body nods its head and says "Go for it, Woman, just Go for it.
And I wish you the very best of walks as you move along through your life.
Thank you, Billy.

Good for you! That is a LARGE commitment and well worth the effort if you can keep it up. I too walk when and where I am able to as long as my feet, knees and legs allow the activity. Hang in there.

Mom & Dad, thanks so much for your meaningful comments. Mom, I would never have thought about boots "squeaking" in the snow .. even though it was always one of my favorite things as well. Conditions had to be perfect for that to happen .. and icy cold! Thanks for bringing those squeaky moments back to my memory. Dad, I wish many, many happy and pain free walks for you! Thank you both, I'm certain other readers will also enjoy your comments! Love, Bill

Hi, Bill, this is The Best Blog Topic on the internet today-not that I have seen others, but I don't have to. Whether for stress, for depression, for exercise, or for whatever the wilds are calling us to experience, your invitation to commit to a daily walk is perfect. I needed to hear this today-mille mercis. Happy trails to you and yours.
