Travelers' Dismay

Outrigger on Poipu Beach, Kauai

No matter how nice the place,  accommodating the people, or comfortable the circumstances of every day existence ... true travelers always want more.  We thrive on the new experience of different cultures, new found haunts, and especially new ideas and ways of thinking; stimulated by change and alteration of the "norms" to which we've become accustomed.  I live on one of earths treasures, Kauai, yet I spend day after day, hour after hour,  longing for my next adventure into the unknown .. my next look at some thought provoking locale in France.

The internal argument is a constant ... "Bill, maybe you are just an unhappy soul, searching for personal fulfillment in far away places"  always followed by:  "No, no, that's not it.  I am happy, but I need those fantastic experiences; those "growth surges" ... only provided by ascending the silver tube, being transported to another alter-reality,   reveling in the complete satisfaction and calm afforded me as I once again assume the position Voyeur of New."

Please don't misunderstand.  When I'm in France, I do miss my friends on Kauai, the incredible tropical breezes and the unparalleled natural beauty of the place.  When in Kauai, the call of France is equally magnified by being absent.   Two Beauties, each with their unforgiving allure .. one not caring about the other, yet both whispering my name in a totally seductive manner on a constant basis.

If you are a true traveler .. I suspect you understand completely.  Now, because I am an empathetic guy, I have come up with a solution for every tortured traveler who cerebrally masticates constantly on the dilemma I've  outlined above, who must make decisions.  Go Buy a ticket !  And make it for anywhere ...

from Kauai to Paris ... and all places between

                                                     See you on the road!

Well said! As one who understands the "call of beyond", be it Kauai, Paris or any and all point in between, I feel your angst....AND your joy around the thrill of discovery, the excitement of newness and the allure of greener grass......always, always, incessantly greener grass:)

Good Morning My Beautiful Bill,

What a wonderful surprise to see your post this morning in my email. We must be kindred spirits because I experience exactly the same feelings as you each day. When Kristi called me yesterday I was able to tell her I had somewhat solved my problem by painting a big scene of her lovely olive trees in the meadow below her house, when I am not working on this painting I place it on it's easel at the foot of my bed and it's just like I was in my own little cabanon looking across the meadow at her magical home on the side of the mountain. This gives me great peace. I feel great remorse that I am not able to see my beautiful home and surroundings here in Puerto Vallarta in the same light as I do Provence, but I guess that is the mystery of France.

Once again thank you Bill for gifting us your wonderful words - plus the beautiful photo, I do love that photo - is that village near Kristi?

XOXO

JULES

Jules, thank you so much for the kind words. That village popped up during a long drive I took while staying at Farigoule in St. Cecile on a visit to Jean-Mark & Kristi. I look forward to visiting their new home in the South. Maybe one of these days I will get the opportunity to say "Bonjour" in person. It will be great to share a glass of JM's creation under the Olive Trees!

I was beginning to think that the Kauai-Paris bus had been derailed and crushed by some alien force. Glad to see I was mistaken. It is always a joy to get a new episode. You and Sally surely do share a love for the unknown and are always ready and willing to try something new. Good for you ! !
