There was someone I wanted to speak with yesterday ..

she's gone.

There are others I think about ..

gone as well.

Space they occupied ..

is different now.

Quiet

solemn and still.

Selfishly I wish them back ..

sadly they can't return.

Silence fills their void ..

answers evade my queries.

I beg one moment ..

an instant to share

unspoken words ..

puke out my fermented thoughts.

Words .. each nuance .. all meanings

intended or not

join the cosmos ..

permanently.

We have our time ..

a brief flash ..

when all is said that can be

our time is past.

As wisdom grows ..

words become precious ..

fewer ..

measured.

One opportunity ..

exhalation complete.

Gift or dagger ..

delivered.

Give words like diamonds on satin ..

eternally bathed in light.

Anything more or less is

Fluff.

This is perfect Bill. It took me several years to understand the power of words. Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. (Proverbs 16:24). Thank you for continuing to feed our souls.

Gayle .. what, how many, when, and how to convey words seems to be a lifetime pursuit and learning experience. So many words would I take back, given the opportunity .. so many words would I speak, given another chance.

Mahalo et Merci for your words, Gayle.

Aloha,
Bill

Your beautiful poem is very timely since we attended the funeral of an exceptional and special friend yesterday. We all feel the regret that we didn't spend enough time dear friends and family and then we are left with our thoughts. Time is our most precious "commodity" and it passes too quickly. Many thanks for your thoughts. Best wishes,Cynthia

Cynthia .. Condolences on the loss of your friend. Certainly makes one wonder if "The last man standing" is the luckiest, or the most burdened. Either way, we can be happy and thankful for the words we did utilize properly .. grateful for the wisdom we attain on life's road, which hopefully makes us better and better. Mahalo et Merci, Cynthia, for your thoughts .. and, again, I am sorry for your loss.

Aloha,
Bill

Bill,
A beautiful thought-provoking poem with profound truths and deep questions. James 3:5 in the Bible says the tongue is a little member that can cause great fires. Fire as vivid as the red rose can damage with wrong words, but kind words can be as beautiful as "apples of gold in silver carvings" - Proverbs 25:11. I would usually comment only personally on such an important subject, but I was moved by your words to add these thoughts. Wonderful to see you way across the pond on this semi-rainy day!

Debbie, you are welcome to add any thoughts at any time (as are all commenters) .. I stand in gratitude to each of you! I've said it many times before .. I will say it many times more .. I am lucky to have such incredible readers. Mahalo et Merci for filling this blog with your wonderful spirit!

Aloha from "across the pond"

"I beg one moment ..
an instant to share
unspoken words ..
puke out my fermented thoughts."

This is a bold and brave statement which conveys what I certainly have felt before, when-in actuality-words were not going to matter.

Time has curbed some of my word effort. In the silence of no response, we begin to hold back, and words float in the imagination. Then one day, there are none, no more words a'tall.

Perhaps we become more discerning, and age informs us there is not as much to say, or the need to. That is a good sign, I think. Many thanks again, Bill, for your words.

Patty, do you suppose one day everyone will "speak" with one another telepathically? And if they do, will they still "say" things they wish they hadn't? I'm glad we aren't there today .. otherwise I would have missed this wonderful response from you. Mahalo et Merci, Bill

Oh my, telepathic communication, a wee bit scarey. Just as long as there is a "send" button that controls it...mind reading could get just as messy as some of our blathering does today. I think we already do communicate mind to mind, with some people better able to intuit it than others. Then there is the awful, irritating, mistake-causing habit of those who think they know what someone else is thinking, i.e., projecting their petty agenda onto others. Lots of messy communication going on!

Then there is Marshall Rosenburg's great work.

At a higher level, in the realm of spiritual communication, I think there is a lot of good stuff zipping around among us! Wishing you a happy Spring, Bill, and for us all, a looking forward to living in the hear and now, knowing we have, in the words of Thich Nhat Hahn "more than enough conditions right now to be happy." (And also STILL have the other "stuff" to deal with!)

Just sign me:
Ever-searchingly yours,

Beautiful words-probably following thoughtful, painful searching.
There are times when each of us miss the time to share a feeling but usually don't you believe that thought, though not heard, is passed on through another manner? Perhaps telepathy? Not to be discounted!
Love the beautiful flowers too. Another "wow" of a blog. Thank you.

Mom .. Thank you so much for your comment. I do believe we communicate in many different formats. We "Humanoids" are so lucky to have a myriad of capabilities for thought sharing, and I'm glad you are sharing your thoughts with me! Love, Your Son

I was grateful for it, Patty. I found your response fascinating.

Bill, I try not to have too many regrets but your poem touched upon my most important one of words not said when they could have been...

Merci...

Words unspoken, I think of that often; when I am missing those who are gone wishing them here again or when nothing is said and it should have been. But that is what makes up this crazy beautiful life we lead.

Spring is here and new beginnings abound!
