French love .. in the basement

In a million years I could never have guessed what was to greet me at the bottom of the stairs .. in the south of Paris .. in the basement of friends.

...................................................................

There it sat .. buried beneath clothes and blankets

Surrounded by bikes and boxes and dart boards and tools

There it sat .. pushed by hand to this lonely resting place

Cold .. in solitary confinement

Longing for sun .. fresh air

Dreaming of new life

exhilaration

freedom

joy

In quiet sorrow .. the most beautiful sight I've ever known

It was love in the basement

Citroen .. Citroen

I'm promised a ride on some future trip

Bouncing and swaying .. in French

Should that not happen .. should fate intervene

I am happy .. je suis très content

Sharing the dream with that little white car

Driving .. north .. south .. east .. west

motor running

wheels turning

faire libérer

free .. free .. free !

As you travel through your lives ..

I wish you

"Bonne Route" / "Happy Motoring"

from Kauai to Paris ... and all places between

Something about that little Citroen really made me happy .. I would defy anyone to sit in that magical machine and not emanate joyfulness. I'm not certain, Karen, but believe this is the first time I've posted a photo of myself in the blog .. it was a moment that made me a little boy again. I'm happy to know you "felt" it along with me. Immediately that little gem of a Citroën made me think of Jacques Tati's "Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot" (1953). It even has what looks to be a beach towel or blanket spread out on its roof and umbrellas to boot...most likely for a drizzly Fall day in Paris. The first photo shows the true character of a basement and then there is the gleeful photo of you inside of the car!

I just attended an antique car show in our little town of Opp, Alabama during their Opp Fest, and I can say with certainty that not one of those cars turned me on like the little car in your post. The words in your story spelled the happiness, and the picture of you sitting in the car showed the exclamation mark of joy. Yes, I'm quite sure this is the first time I've seen your face on the blog, and what a jubilant face it is! Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could share a picture like this one every day? Merci
