Baby cat resides on the couch ..
totally at peace ..
happy.

Her energy spent ..
to catch that mouse ..
to eat.

Spikey plant resides on the limb ..
totally at peace ..
happy.

Absorbing the sun ..
preparing a feast ..
not for him .. for others.

Both content ..
both relaxed ..
both mindlessly blissful.

Human thinks and strives to "be" ..
to achieve ..
amass more than needed.

Proudly flaunting our gift of reason ..
calm ignored ..
Nature not heeded.

Frantic mind construction ..
falsely measured growth ..
declaring "we are superior"

Intellect abused ..
greed constantly used ..
to steal and guard and be in arrear.

No couch nor limb ..
will cradle them ..
Happy there has died.

I dream to awaken ..
hear the perfect sound ..
of silence.

I dream to be happy ..
feeling ultimate joy ..
as "life music" soothes my soul.

Baby and Spikey ..
I watch you today ..
teachers I've not before heeded.

Ego be gone ..
intellect too ..
I realize your lessons are needed.

Bonjour, Bill!

You have touched on the important points of life to which I might add one more: to be thankful. I do enjoy and appreciate the way you share your thoughts through poetry.

By the way, you haven't written about "Fred" lately. Is he or others of his family still paying visits to your porch? Bon weekend and my best wishes.

Oh Yes, Cynthia .. Thankfulness! Focusing on what we have instead of bemoaning what we don't have or what we wish we had .. Thank You! I smile as you mention Fred. We were forced by the feral Kauai Chickens to stop feeding our cats on the porch .. the hens literally chased the cats away and ate their food. Fred and friends continued to show up for a while thereafter and I would give them treats, but as the "feedings" moved inside the house, Fred and Company went elsewhere for their morsels. I miss Fred .. and I'm Thankful for you and that memory.

Ça va, Bill! I enjoy your poetic creations, observations about life and our petty efforts to "have it all," thereby missing the mattermost.* Watching the world like you do testifies to your ability to drop in to the hear & now, to be present. Being present is a big deal. Being willing to see our own goodness & worth is a big deal, too. The day to day work & activities need to be done, but you get that there is more. You get that there is a sublime aspect to living if we will wake up to it. Stop, look and listen for it. I need those reminders. Thank you for your thoughtful words to remind us of this!

*mattermost is not a word, not even a hyphenated one that I can find. Yet I like it and it is perfect for when I want to say this. So waa laa! It seems though it might have been used in older times, dunno.

Hello, Aloha, et Bonjour, Patty! I need those reminders too, and I'm discovering more and more that they reside in the nature around us .. we just need to tune in and find the values that "mattermost". Thank you so very much for your insight and input .. AND the new word!

I love "mattermost" Pat. It is so true the simple things, just being can bring much more joy than doing, doing, doing. Amassing is truly ego, in the long run what we have really doesn't bring us happiness. We can bring ourselves happiness by being aware.
