Out the Other Side

Most precious is our gift of love
heart so freely given
expecting nothing in return
not agenda driven

No other pain hurts so deeply
like twisted knives and crushing bone
than empty starkness of rejection
left standing speechless and alone

Broken remnants of shattered reality
ripping at the heart
where one hoped for reciprocation
the other tore it apart

Such is life .. C'est la vie
incredible magical ride
let them own their pain as you continue to love
gaining strength out the other side

Not having reciprocal love does sting, but learning to love and accept the person in the mirror provides balance and salve for the wounds .. and a happy existence! I love you too, Little Brother!

This is such a lovely comment on the sometime shakiness of love. There has never been an answer for rejection that takes one out of the hurt but, as you write we can gain strength and a kind of dignity through working through the pain.

We can't control how others perceive us or how they feel about us. We do have complete control over what we shape ourselves to be. As we grow spiritually, rejection is all the more hurtful because we've become more attuned to that person in the mirror .. more accepting .. more loving .. more forgiving. Rejection may be an indicator for continued "self work" and it might also be an indicator for us to let go and move forward .. leaving some of those we have loved, but who do not reciprocate. This does not mean we stop loving them, and it does not happen without "pain of separation" .. but it is necessary for self growth to not purposefully immerse oneself into a reality "clouded" by those who cause self-doubt by their incapacity to accept our offering of love. By continuing to love those who cannot or will not reciprocate, we do attain strength and dignity.

Oh Yes, Cynthia, Yes! "Where would we be without it" is such an honest and accurate query. Love is so powerful that even pain associated with it is better than not having love touch us as we traverse life's paths.
