Stuff grows inside
no place to hide
I feel I can no longer take it

I suggest to me
give it a rest
don't follow the urge t0 fake it

Nothing is sacred
dear narcissist
especially My view of my Self

Embellish and relish
in my mind's eye
as others scrap me on shelf

____

Enter then agony
beaten and tired
with wonder "what did I do?"

It seems the answer
dwells within dreams
Listen .. they exist pure and true
____

After I've broken
then shed salty tears
come naked for all to see

Newly purified
child again here
smiling at this New Me

____

One would think
New Me triumphant
perfection by inner grace

Fact is, my friends,
New Me ain't nothin'
'til that smug smile leaves the face

So much meaning within those well-written words.
To me these words reveal a pain carried through childhood and beyond. They cannot be explained away nor fully forgiven but maybe accepted and discarded.
Do, please, continue to write. Writing as you do is a gift you were given and the gift you regive as you share. Thank you so much.

Yes, I can understand why you would interpret this piece in that manner. The intent of the piece is speaking to every "self realized" individual .. those who have rediscovered their innate selves, and who then battle the stigma of ego attachment as they cast off the past and move forward into new life. The meat of the matter is in the last three lines, where I've attempted to express that self realization is nothing until one isn't "proud" of the discovery, but humbled and thankful .. discarding the smug smile of ego, of self righteousness. I really appreciate your compliment to the writing .. it gives me hope that I am connecting with my readers!

The ego is strong and so self righteous. Makes us believe what we think. Attachment to our ideas and thoughts are hard to let go but when we do we are free.
