Starkly White

I stare at the blank page
it stares back for free
who will win the contest
Starkly White or me

Starkly appears receptive
but he and I both know
what I place upon his surface
can die as well as grow

Sometimes I feel him mocking
taunting me to fail
"Go ahead" he says "I'm waiting
.. this ship is set to sail"

His Blankness is sometimes easy to love
often easy to hate
flaunting his greatest asset
the ability to wait

I scratch my head and continue to stare
thoughts raging through my brain
Starkly simply sits right there
driving me insane

Click click the keys respond
when I capitulate
and Starkly smiles that knowing grin
as Bill creates his fate ...

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY !! This is a special day which is anything but "starkly white". Do you write at the desk shown above? The "corbeille à papier" will never over flow nor will there be balls of rumpled up paper on the carpet due to your computer's trashcan.

Cynthia .. Happy Fourth of July to you as well ! That is my little office in the Tucson home. I just purchased in Tucson last year and have only visited twice since the purchase .. so, yes, when in Tucson that is my "Writers Haven". I vow to keep Starkly grinning (or smirking, according to my performance). Thank you so much for commenting on this particular post. I wondered what size audience the photo of Starkly White would gather. Cynthia, it appears at this point the post attracted one like minded soul .. a gift for any writer. Starkly is like a weird dream, Karen, I load him up with words, turn away for a second or two, and when I glance back at him, there he sits .. all smug with that completely empty countenance .. Creepy and Compelling .... always waiting for more and more. Starkly will never be satisfied, I'm afraid. I WILL keep trying to satiate him with words and wipe that knowing smirk from his "being".
