Steak au poivre

Anything and everything pertaining to growing, gathering, and consuming the luscious papaya is a perfectly pleasant and positive experience.
Selecting and drying  seeds

Preparing the earth

Watering .. gentle labor of peaceful anticipation

That moment when seeds burst forth .. thrilling

The baby is born

Begin the watch of time

Begin my watch of diligence with pleasure

Select one plant

Reverently remove all but the one

Hours, days, weeks, months .. a sturdy tree appears

then flowers

 fruit

Carefully I take from the tree

Generously the tree gives.

When the skin is golden

When the aroma calls

I cut it

Remove the seeds

Marvel at the taste

Await the next miracle from our yard.

___________

One day I h0pe to attain strength of conviction to change and grow

never again cutting into the flesh of a dead creature

because, unlike the process of killing ..
Anything and everything pertaining to growing, gathering, and consuming the luscious papaya is a perfectly pleasant and positive experience.
but ..

A fantastic chef awaits in France ..

with steak au poivre.

Merde !!

I'm so friggin' weak ..

but I keep trying ...

from Kauai to Paris .. and all places between

Aloha et "Au poivre"

LOL! I had to smile. As a vegetarian, I applaud your desire to leave the "dark side"! ;) I hope you make the switch someday! :)

It can be hard, but it is getting easier. More and more restaurants are starting to accommodate people who have made the choice to eat a plant-based diet. And, their dishes are getting more tasty!

Good luck! :)

Excellent on so many levels, Sherrill. The fact you are reading my blog gives me a boost .. simply because it tells me I have readers who are living a "higher" existence. Hopefully my writing strikes a chord with that segment of society. I do believe strongly we have everything necessary for sustenance within the plant world. Thank you for the good wishes, I do keep trying and have actually succeeded for extended periods of time. As my moral compass continues to get stronger and more vibrant, it has become easier, but when a Colorado boy smells a beef steak cooking .. well ... please keep thinking good thoughts for me, I'll get there! Mahalo et Merci, Sherrill, you've started my Sunday on a high note! Aloha, Bill

Yes, I hear you Bill. I can't make the jump either (yet) but admire those who do.
I suppose that I shouldn't mention that we are making a choucroute for dinner tonight? :(

Oh my, how I wish I could partake of that yummy yummy papaya with you! There is simply nothing quite like it....in my humble opinion, not even the juiciest steak compares. Given the choice, it would ALWAYS be the papaya. C'est vrai!

Sis, those two beauties are just sitting there, waiting, beginning to permeate the kitchen air with their awesome aroma ... much like the incomparable smell of peppercorns and brandy sizzling in anticipation of covering a succulent beef steak ... damn, there I go again! lol ... Mahalo et Merci Little Sister .. Love you, Bill

Best of both worlds - papaya fruit and the tree's latex are rich in papain, a protease used for tenderizing meat....Bringing Kauai and Paris together, possibly a win win?

Gayle .. you nailed it! Steak au poivre avec papaya .. half decadence - half guilt reliever - totally delicious. Bring on the vin rouge and it's the perfect imperfect meal :-) Mahalo et Merci Gayle .. great idea! Bill

Ah...the papaya. My family used to buy our Sunrise papayas from Mama Nakama in O'ahu. Her white van would be parked every weekend at the open market. How I miss the island life. I don't know if Mama Nakama still sells her Sunrise papayas on the same time and same place.

Oh Kayni .. no worry Honeygirl .. you'll be home one day, and there will be Sunrise papayas waiting for you! You know the rules .. once an island girl, always an island girl .. it will never leave you. Aloha, Bill

Bill, if you were to only eat steak while you are in France then you are very close to being a vegetarian ... fish and fowl being a separate category with which to deal! Do you ever eat quinoa? It is high in protein and makes a wonderful "salad" mixed with avocado along with any vegetables, herbs and spices you are fond of; dress it with a nice olive oil and vinegar. This tastes wonderful at room temperature or chilled. Think lunchtime with your baguette and brie..... P.S. I am not a vegetarian ... just someone who prefers veggies (and fruits) of all stripes. Thanks and best wishes.

Thank You, Cynthia! I'm with you .. love my fruits and veggies. I do eat quinoa .. luckily there is a wonderful market just next door to my office that has a salad bar with bunches of good stuff. Beets & quinoa are two of the items I regularly enjoy. It's amazing how many wondrous items there are in the plant kingdom. Just behind our home are 4 enormous avocado trees (4 different varieties!) and the neighbors are very generous with them. If I really wanted to get "hard core" I do believe I would never have to leave my own neighborhood to purchase food .. avocados, macadamia nuts, papaya, mango, wild spinach (excellent), guava, grapefruit, oranges, and more ... Kauai truly does live up to Her name as the Garden Island. One would think I'd be totally gratified with Her bounty of plants.

But then it happens .. that wonderful smell of the old bbq and I'm off to the races with a big steak ... sigh ...

Mahalo et Merci, Cynthia, I appreciate your comments and your insight. What awesome readers I'm blessed with!

Aloha et Au revoir, Bill

There are so many, as I say; yummy foods out there. You have to enjoy what you eat whether it be veggies or meat. Or Chocolate!!!!
