Talent,  Patience,  Persistence, Passion

Real estate is my bread and butter.  Because of this wonderful lifestyle, I have been blessed to travel, own a nice home, help others who need more than myself, and have a comfortable existence on a daily basis.  But deep within I dream of achieving something significant .. something based on "higher" ideals than simply making a living .. something creative to stir emotional response inside another human being.  This blog is one vehicle for that dream.

So few of us truly live our passion.  So many of us go through life on a false treadmill of "One of these days" and "I'll do it when I have the time" .. slowly letting life slip by without making the perceived sacrifices necessary to do what we love on a daily basis.  We were each given gifts beyond imagination .. gifts we bury beneath the all too common misperception that "work" is not meant to be fun, or uplifting, or celebrated every moment of our lives.  What a wonderful dictionary of life it will be when the word "work" is replaced by "creativity".

I often remark to others that I am deeply envious of Child Prodigies .. those who were born with a gift so deeply entrenched in their souls that they have complete and total focus .. nothing can dissuade them from the inner passion and drive to excel.  They know ... their life is a fantastic mission to reach the full potential of an innate gift.  These fortunate few were blessed, for whatever reason, to reach heights of the human capability.  I believe they were gifted in order to provide an example to the rest of us .. an example that clearly shows the possibilities available if we will simply cast all the false trappings aside and give ourselves completely to what we know to be our unique and personal blessings.

Aside from those born with innate knowledge, there are those few who "find" their passion, recognize what they must do in order to realize their potential, and live a life filled with joy, gratification, and fulfillment.  Many of us recognize these truths .. few are then willing to make the necessary adjustments and changes to bring the creative life to fruition.  Those few are who the masses aspire to be .. reaching  great heights of joy only available to enlightened persons and their creativity .. creativity which only blossoms after  it is recognized then acted upon.  My personal goal is to be one of them.

In my experience, and maybe only my own faulted experience, one of the stumbling blocks to reaching this goal of being creative and happy is the odd human trait of possessiveness.  We humanoids seem to be very guarded about sharing the most treasured entities in our lives.  The simple act of introducing a best friend to another,  a favorite restaurant,  music we feel is "ours",  special experiences that for some odd reason we feel will be diminished of importance when told to others.  And, having become aware of this disturbing trait in myself and others, I have simultaneously begun to notice an absence of that quirk in many of those I consider to be evolved into that rare strata of  "living their passion on a daily basis".  This post is to honor, thank, and recognize one such person and her extraordinary husband,  Kristin and Jean-Marc Espinasse.

You all know I love France, and in loving France I spend many hours pouring over "things French" on the web.  Some years ago I came across a wonderful website, titled French-Word-A-Day.  To compact a very long story into a very short statement .. I've been a transfixed and loyal follower of Kristin's "work/passion" ever since.  As I followed her blog, I soon became aware of her husband,  Master Vintner Jean-Marc.  If  Kristin's writing had not been enough (and it was .. and it is), after tasting the wonderful wines Jean-Marc was producing in The Vaucluse I knew I had to go meet these extraordinary people on my next trip to Paris ..  and I did .. and I found two wonderful new friends.  Today I recognize them .. I recognize them because they deserve to be recognized .. I recognize them because in order for me to be like them, that mantel of possessiveness must be lifted from my life.  Recognizing another is a great gift .. one that I intend to practice fervently on a daily basis .. join me, I think you will like it.

Kristin Espinasse began her blog in 1999 and she is my absolute heroine as applied to those words in todays title .. Talent, Patience, Persistence, Passion.  While raising a family, renovating homes, living in a new country, and who knows what other possible life distractions may have been there, Kristin has steadfastly followed her passion for writing and has become one of my favorite contemporary writers on the planet.  I won't talk about her blog because I don't really feel I would do it justice.  I do invite you to click here and view what I have been possessively guarding for many years .. and when you get there, subscribe to her blog and enjoy many, many days of the joy she shares with her following of over 40,000 readers.

Now, Kristin and Jean-Marc have no idea I am posting this today.  I took the photo of them at their previous home and invited Kristin to utilize it .. thankfully she hasn't done that, so I have the pleasure and honor!  They are both lovely, and humble about their accomplishments .. so I do hope I'll be forgiven for this blatant photo release.

Thank You, Kristin, for demonstrating that our Muse can be found.  Thank You, Kristin, for being a wonderful example of giving and sharing with your words .. baring yourself with no fear, for all to see.  And Thank You, Kristin, for being an inspiration to me .. proving that  Talent, Patience, Persistence, Passion
are a reality when we dare to master our given gifts.  I am freed by your excellent example of sharing.

Jean-Marc ... Thank You for being the rock and providing the loving and nurturing home where your family can continue to be enlightened and special.  Famille Espinasse is a gift to all .....

My Darling Precious Bill,

I am overwhelmed by your precious post this morning - what a joy and a true blessing you have been for my life. Thank you for honoring Kristi, she truly has no idea of her impact on all of our lives. Your post has even brought to my attention how blessed we all are to have Kristi in our lives. Of course I've said this before - You Bill are my STAR!

XOXO

What a wonderful tribute to Kristi & J-M. Kristi's daring has encouraged me to pursue my own endeavors. I share your praise for building an environment that promotes creativity. That is a gift in itself.

Bill, what a day to be honored! If you could see me now, trying to put one foot in front of the other... Instead of cower beneath the bed covers! I don't know about passion. But I do feel driven.. when not struggling, daily, with lackadaisy.. Today I woke up fearful of letting the day slip away (putter, putter, putter) without making some sort of progress. Perhaps my stories are progress reports :-) Thank you so much for the cheers. And what an honor this is. I wish I had your gift of expression, Bill. You are wonderful at bringing people together, via your heartfelt words, and a great encourager.

Wonderful post about Kristin, Jean-Marc, and family. Kristin adds so much to my own curriculum as a teacher, allowing me to share insights into French culture. This is so valuable as it also stimulates conversation and helps the students to reflect more about their own culture. Most of all, the students feel a more personal connection with France and Kristin's family there. I am so grateful to have this connection with all Kristin's insights, struggles and successes. These are truly wonderful stories and photos to share.

Bill I have been reading your comments on French Word A Day for years. I too am a big fan of Kristi. I am blessed to call her my friend. It was very exciting those years ago when she came to Phoenix and I was able to meet her and her family.

What a wonderful delightful tribute. Your words brought tears to my eyes as well as a smile to my face. Your writing is just beautiful.

I too have wondered why people keep things to themselves. I tried to five years to join a book club no one would let me in. From that experience all those years ago I have tried to always be very inviting to everyone. Share and get to know people, you never know what you are missing.

Bill, your post was beautifully written about two equally beautiful people in the truest sense. Some of the so-called Beautiful People are not behaving to fit their names. I'm sure that you are doing meaningful things with a purpose in life. You just reminded me that my purpose in life is far more important than the blog, my work or even my small creative efforts.

Hello Bill, my first time here. What a beautiful picture! Oh I love Kristin's French Word a Day and came here via there. Perhaps your passion is your interest in the world and your gift is your ability to facilitate connecting people with places? For me I wrestle with passion, I know what is my passion, yet how do I share it with the world in a way that enables me to visit and live in other parts of the world when I have children? That's my struggle, how does a person of modest means bring her children out into the greater world?

What a lovely and meaningful post! I have been reading Kristin's blog for just a few months and absolutely love living vicariously through her! My one 2 week visit to France while my daughter and her husband lived there for 7 months has me completely hooked on all things French. I try not to get too depressed knowing with my old brain that I could never come close to being a fluent French speaker, but I love trying to read along with her MP3 sections and also love just listening. Sounds like now I will have to follow your blog as well. I also love reading beautiful, meaningful English words, such as yours and Kristen's, that are so well written. Keep up the enlightening work.

Jean-Marc - You are so welcome AND deserving! I'm looking forward to enjoying the first taste of your Bandol .. Happy Growing my Friend!

Debbie - I think your blog is a beautiful extension of exactly who you are and I invite others to enjoy your sharing at www.afrenchopportunity.com ... I believe there are no small creative efforts. Thank you for your contribution to "Higher" thinking

Lisa - Deep inside you is the answer. You will find the way if you continue to look within yourself, then take the necessary actions to bring your dream to fruition. The "discovery and change" is what we all struggle with in our search to live what we know is our individual gift .. I know I do. Sending positive thoughts your way for the "Evolution of Lisa" ! Please do the same for me .. I need it !!

Cheryl - You make me smile with your linguistically challenged statement. I've been going to France for many, many years and still don't have a grasp of the language (I am, without a doubt, Linguistically Lazy). \

Thank each of you for reading and leaving these uplifting comments .. they mean so much!

Aloha et Au revoir, Bill

Bill,

Such a lovely post for such a lovely couple! That is one great picture of the two of them! Such a sweet and moving tribute. I am another trying to find my special place in the world, so I can so relate! :)

I saw your comment a while back in response to me waving if I make it to Kauai in October . . . I was waiting to see how our plans shaped up before I replied. Looks like our plans are on hold for now! :( But, one of these days . . . Kauai is definitely on my list of places to visit . . . and it would be nice if it worked out to be able to meet another fan of this sweet couple! Especially in such a lovely corner of the world! Aloha!

Sherrill - Just stopped by your blog (WillowsQuietCorner) and really enjoyed your wonderful photography and "Happy Writing". JM & Kristin are so naturally likeable it was a breeze speaking highly of them. Here's a wish for all of us to find our "special place in the world" ! Mahalo Nui for taking the time to read my blog.

Hello Bill,

So nice to 'get to know you' through your thoughts made manifest here. I have followed Kristin for about two years now. Found her during my second semester of French at UNC-CH. I hope to travel to Paris and to meet Kristin and Jean Marc personally once I graduate in December. Kristin has helped me 'see' France until then. She also led me to your gift. Thank you. You live in a paradise I have had the pleasure of visiting... Kauai was etched upon my heart and I hope to return again some day. I took on college (again) at 49 to follow my dream and while the process itself has been at times nightmarish, no regrets! Thank you again for your blog and a chance to travel again to Kauai through your musings.
Best thoughts,
Robin

Bill, as a long-timer at Kristi's blog, I have enjoyed your observations. Today's first look here at your site is very moving. I still try to hide my light under a basket of fear and admittedly, some laziness. I am encouraged by friends and family to paint, yet do not pursue it very much. Your thoughts today mean a lot to me. Mille mercis! Kristi and Jean-Marc are both inspirational to others to follow their passion and their hearts. There is a whole lot of heart in what they do which is why they have such a strong and appreciative following. So real. Like you. A bientôt!, I'll be checking in again.
