Writers Dream

What if they die ..

those picture machines?

no buttons to push ..

no photos and screens?

Image contrived

by manual means ..

humanly crafted

falsified dreams.

Will panic erupt

in agonized screams

when laziness challenges fate?

When reality is "return to script"

.. my senses cannot wait

Create your canvas

by each new thought

of mind's pure crafted themes ..

then

relish the day of returning words ..

New life !

without photos and screens

Of all the great? new technology I think digital photography and the instant gratification that it produces is by far the best. Most of the other new, today, technology is just that "today". Tomorrow it is obsolete and on it goes. The young thrive of change but us oldsters, for the most part, would rather have things be the same or at least similar tomorrow as they are to day. Overall I guess change is for the better but I have trouble accepting.

Thanks Dad .. Of course this piece is fantasy .. but "what if" is a fun thought sometimes. "What if" everyone was once again sitting in the silence of a pre-radio, pre-television, pre-camera age .. quietly turning the pages of a book .. "what if"? Writing would once again be elevated to fine art and writers would once again enjoy Rock Star status .. this is the Writers Dream. Thanks so much for your comment, Dad! Mahalo et Merci, Bill

New and different sometimes fascinates me, but that's not to say that I like it ... many times I intensely dislike the changes it brings to our society as a whole. I remember loving pictures in a book as a child and then as I grew older I didn't want them in a book I was reading because they were not at all how I had imagined the person or scene to be!

Since I am seventy-eight years old, I have seen many changes in every aspect of life: small sleepy towns have become quite large with shopping malls everywhere; people move quite often; hospitals are huge; medical technology is wonderful, but doctors seldom have time to spend enough time with their patients today (I was a nurse starting out in the 1950's and my husband a physician). The list goes on and I, too, sometimes have trouble fitting into these new scenes. BUT a wonderful book to read is a constant! I am enjoying your poems! Mille mercis!

Sometimes we just don't want things to change and that is okay.

So true, Karen! The "Romantic" inside me would love to hang out for a bit in Victorian Times ... but, "oh yeah Baby" (Austin Powers) .. I've gotta have that big silver bird for travel .. a horse and buggy just ain't gonna get me from Kauai to Paris! Mahalo et Merci, Karen .. always a pleasure reading your comments. Bill

What a neat, new poem! Written so well from the heart of a writer.
Yes, the printed word oft gets shoved aside in our world by flashes of brilliant colors caught by a camera. But the blind are dazzled by the perfect word that describes such phenomena.
Please keep feeding us and thank you!
